January started with a bang as Compass Community choir had its launch week. It was a brand new project, started up by a local GP to promote wellbeing. Ginger Millington (musical director) and I had to hit the ground running after a lazy Christmas holiday. The team photocopied enough music for only 30 people (we needed 4 times as much!) and we had no idea how popular it would be. Ginger’s excellent arrangements lend themselves to all levels of singing so people could come and enjoy themselves without pressure. We weren’t sure of how the choir would progress but I’m pleased to say that Compass has become a popular weekly event. Next concert 21st June!
The show at Saint Ronan’s this year was ‘Chitty chitty bang bang’ and the final performances in March were very well received. I'm looking forward to starting work on the next show this Autumn..
My work at the Royal Opera House continues and I have been lucky to work on the Nutcracker and the Firebird with the Ballet Dots team. These classes are for babies and pre-schoolers and it is a real joy to accompany and see the smiling faces of parents and their little ones. It is also a treat to play in the Paul Hamblyn hall.
It was a challenge to learn Stravinsky’s Firebird for the Chance to Dance children but all the hard work is paying off and the children are thoroughly enjoying putting together their dances. I was happy to collaborate with Debbi Parks and we worked out the demanding music together. I also had a brilliant time with Debbi playing ballet/opera piano duets for the 'Wonder Woman' ROH Sunday.
Last but by no means least, my album is finished! More on that soon.
